Subtitle Workshop Portable is a lightweight, zero-installation version of the classic subtitle editing software Subtitle Workshop. It runs directly from a USB flash drive or external hard drive, making it a perfect tool for syncing captions on any Windows computer without needing administrator rights. Core Synchronization Methods

You can easily resolve out-of-sync captions on the go using two principal methods depending on how the timings are misaligned. Method 1: The Set Delay Feature (For Constant Offsets)

Use this option if the entire subtitle track is shifted by a fixed amount of time (e.g., all captions appear exactly 3 seconds too early or too late).

Load Files: Open Subtitle Workshop Portable, load your subtitle file (Ctrl + O), and open the corresponding video (Ctrl + P).

Open Delay Tool: Press Ctrl + D or navigate to Edit > Timings > Set Delay.

Configure Time: Choose the + (plus) sign if the subtitles are early, or - (minus) if they are late. Enter the exact time offset in hours, minutes, seconds, and milliseconds.

Select Scope: Click the All subtitles radio button to shift the entire file uniformly. Apply: Click Apply to recalculate all timestamps instantly.

Method 2: The Adjust Subtitles Feature (For Proportional Sync)

Use this option if the text drifts out of sync gradually over time due to a frame rate mismatch or a different video cut.

Find First Anchor: Play the video until you hear the very first spoken dialogue line. Pause the video and note the exact video timestamp.

Find Last Anchor: Skip to the end of the video, play it until you hear the very last line of dialogue, and note that timestamp as well.

Open Adjust Menu: Press Ctrl + B or go to Edit > Timings > Adjust > Adjust subtitles.

Input Coordinates: In the dialog box, type your first noted video timestamp into the First spoken line field. Type the second video timestamp into the Last spoken line field.

Execute: Click Adjust. The software automatically recalculates and scales every single subtitle row in between to fit perfectly between those two points. On-the-Go Keyboard Shortcuts

When working quickly on a laptop without a dedicated mouse, you can manipulate timing rows manually using rapid hotkeys: Select All Subtitles: Press Ctrl + A.

Shift Forward (100ms): Press Shift + Ctrl + H to push selected captions forward dynamically.

Shift Backward (100ms): Press Shift + Ctrl + N to pull selected captions backward dynamically. Saving Your Progress

Always save your synchronized work before closing the app. Press Ctrl + S to save the file. If you need it for a specific device or player, go to File > Save As to convert the output into one of the dozens of supported caption formats, such as SubRip (.srt).
